Sonny’s personality:
Sonny is a happy and friendly boy. He loves affection and company from his humans, and playtime with his K9 buddy’s. Sonny is obedient and well-behaved - he is a calm dog, who virtually never barks and who likes to be inside when there’s a thunderstorm.

Sonny’s ideal forever home:
Sonny would suit virtually any household - he is great with kids, dogs of any size or sex, he walks really well on lead, he loves to play but can also easily kick back, relax and be calm. He enjoys human company and to sunbake, more than anything. So a quiet home with lots of company is probably his ideal set up!

Sonny’s story:
Sonny has spent the majority of his life with his original family - from the age of 8 weeks up until September last year. We received all of his paperwork and veterinary records when he was surrendered to us, so we know that he was well looked after. We don’t know why Sonny was rehomed but unfortunately this led to a succession of new homes in a very short period of time. His original owners rehomed him to someone in Newcastle in September, that person gave him away to a mature couple in Forster, who surrendered him to us in February. He stayed with a foster family, until he was adopted late March. Two weeks later he was back with us, amidst stories of reactivity and “aggression”. That’s FIVE new “homes” in 7 months! :-(

We are so grateful that we have had the opportunity to get to know Sonny! He is an absolutely awesome dog - a firm favourite with all of our volunteers. He gets along well with every single dog that we have introduced him to and he is non-reactive to our clinic cats. Sonny’s only downfall is that he likes to “hump” doggies when he first meets them. The novelty wears off and he eventually loses interest. He is also non-reactive when he is told to go away - he doesn’t always listen, but he doesn’t object to being “told”. He is also extremely easy to correct. If he is on lead, you only need to give the smallest tweak and he responds immediately, without any fuss. He is amazing!

We are disappointed that he was given an undeserved negative rap by the couple who adopted him from us, but we can only assume there were other elements that contributed to that situation. We can say without any doubt that Sonny is NOT reactive or aggressive. He is happy and easy going doggo, to say the least!

Sonny’s medical history:
Sonny has no medical issues.. He is a healthy and fit doggy, who is desexed and up to date with vaccinations, heartworm treatment and flea, tick and intestinal worm treatments.

More about Sonny:
Sonny is a playful but easy going boy. He likes to have a little run around and then likes to lay down and have a rest in the sun! He is eager to please, learns quickly, and walks exceptionally well on lead. He has all the standard tricks up his paws - sit, stay, shake, drop.

Sonny has a sensitive tummy - bones are a no-no, but he is not fussy at all with his food. And he loves treats! He has shown some resource guarding with food, but this seems to be fading. It is still something to bear in mind if you have another doggy at home. He has no objection to people removing his food or withholding treats etc.

Sonny needs to be an inside doggy and allowed to sleep inside, as he is a little storm phobic - but only if he is outside. As soon as he is brought inside, he settles and is calm.

Sonny is a special boy, who deserves only the best. He will make an excellent addition to any family and will provide you with unconditional love and loyalty. Sonny’s adoption fee is $400.
