Morty - Adopted!

Morty is a 4 year old Australian Kelpie X, who cannot wait for his second chance at life!

Morty’s personality:
Morty is a truly beautiful boy, who has quickly won the hearts of everyone here at Sweet Pea! We are uncertain of his exact age but guesstimate him to be around 4 and a half years old - he is an Australian Kelpie X who we rescued from Muswellbrook pound. Morty has the cutest smile and is such a joy to spend time with - despite all the challenges he has faced, he is such a happy dog! Morty loves to play fetch, but we have had to reduce this for now so that we can protect his remaining front leg from injury as much as possible. This doesnt stop him from playing fetch with himself though! Morty is a clever boy and loves to throw the ball up for himself then play chase, you will never see him far from the favourite ball of the moment! He loves to go for walks and spend time around people but is also quite content spending time on his own, lazing in the sun.

Morty’s ideal forever home:
Morty's ideal forever home is one that will provide him with safety, security and love above all else. Oh, and plenty of balls! Morty loves to play and roam around, so a large fenced area for him is a must. His gentle personality would suit being around children and he would also love a home where his family is around to pay him attention and spend time with him. He has interacted well with other dogs (especially the girls) that he has met and has developed a special friendship with Nanna, one of other rescue doggies. He has also shown no interest in the resident clinic cats.

Morty’s story:
Morty found himself in Muswellbrook Pound with an old nerve injury rendering his right front leg useless. He had already lost all muscle mass in his shoulder and had open wounds on the top of his foot from dragging it on the ground. He was transported to Sweet Pea by one of our wonderful clients, where he could complete his impound time and receive treatment for his leg. Morty was assessed by the vet and was found to have irreversible damage to his leg, so the decision was made to amputate in order to give Morty the best quality of life possible.

This operation has given Morty a new lease on life and you could immediately see the relief in his face that he was no longer carrying around such a burden.

Morty through no fault of his own, has sadly gone to two new homes since being with us and come back twice. The first home unfortunately underestimated his care requirements and were wanting him to walk over 10km a day with him - something that Morty just cannot manage on 3 legs.
The second home was more than a perfect fit! However, his new canine sister did not agree and was very unhappy with Morty's arrival into her space. His new owner was devasted that he had to come back here as they had already fallen madly in love with him.

Morty's story is not complete yet - we know for sure that his perfect home is out there somewhere and that one day he will get his happy ending! In the meantime, this beautiful boy is living his best life with daily love from our volunteers who absolutely adore him.

Morty’s medical history:
Morty is a happy, healthy, 3-legged doggie. He has been desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for fleas, ticks and worms. His teeth are slightly worn, which we suspect is from his obsession with toys! But he is otherwise, a very healthy and active boy!
